Jayne & Mike :: the Wedding

Earlier this summer, I had another opportunity to help a couple remember their wedding day for years to come – through photographs.

Jayne and Mike are two people that are great to be around, and their wedding day was a lot of fun – full of smiles, laughter, a practical joke or two, and a few surprises.

I LOVE watching Dad see his daughter for the first time in her gown …

When I found out they were both big into basketball, I knew exactly what their ring photo would be…

Rain on grass :: lines and circles

I took this picture at night, with a video light, to make sure I could get the depth of the shadows I was looking for.
I love the combination of straight lines/angles and spheres/water droplets. Makes it easy to get lost in the photo.

The Monarch :: chrysalis to flight

Some good friends of ours have been raising Monarch butterflies this summer, and they asked if I’d like to come over sometime with my camera.

Wow.

I’m thankful for the invitation, and glad I took them up on it.

The caterpillars wrap themselves into these chrysalis, which start out lime green, with the most amazing detail.

The yellow and black dots look like they were hand-painted. Nope. Just God.

As they get closer to hatching, they start to get dark. By the time they’re ready to come out, the chrysalis turns almost transparent,

and you can actually see all the detail of the Monarch inside.

It really is amazing.

The detail in the wing blew me away. To me, it looks like a piece of material.

Canvas, maybe?

Beautiful, yes.

NYC :: rooftop style!!

Yesterday was a crazy-cool day for me and my camera!

I had the chance to join back up with Mike Landis and shoot a wedding that took place at the Terrace in the Sky – a rooftop in New York City.

Since that was a relatively early finish, we took advantage of being in the Big Apple and visited with some friends in Long Island City,

where we kicked back on the roof of their condo and helped them take care of on of the biggest racks of ribs I’ve seen in a long time!

Here’s a taste of what your view looks like to my camera!

I’m pretty sure I got this right… this is the Queensborough Bridge, crossing the East River.

Mike – thanks for ‘taking me off the bench’ – always a pleasure, and a privilege.

Il Sun, Megan – Thanks again for opening up your home and sharing a feast with two weary travellers!
